Booster Pump Non-Return Valve Replacement – Leicester Apartment Block
Project: Booster Pump Non-Return Valve Replacement
Location: Leicester City Centre, Leicestershire
Property: Residential Apartment Block
Service: Booster Pump Repairs & Preventative Maintenance
Equipment: Twin Cold Water Booster Pump Set
The Problem – Failed Booster Pump Non-Return Valve at Leicester Apartment Block
Maintaining reliable water pressure in residential apartment buildings is essential for ensuring residents have a consistent water supply for everyday activities, including showering, washing, cleaning and general household use.
NT Cloke Pumps & Water attended a residential apartment block in Leicester city centre, where a routine booster pump servicing visit identified a failed non-return valve within the property’s existing cold water booster pump system.
Non-return valves, also known as check valves, play an important role in booster pump operation by allowing water to flow in one direction while preventing it from flowing backwards through the system.
When a non-return valve fails, it can cause several problems, including:
- Water flowing backwards through the booster pump system.
- Unnecessary pump cycling and increased wear.
- Fluctuating water pressure throughout the building.
- Reduced booster pump efficiency.
- Additional strain on pumps and associated components.
- Increased risk of further system faults.
Although only one non-return valve had failed, both valves were of a similar age and had been operating within the same system.
Rather than waiting for the second valve to develop a fault, our engineers recommended replacing both components as part of a preventative maintenance approach.
This would help maintain reliable booster pump operation while reducing the likelihood of further disruption to the apartment building’s water supply.
What We Did – Booster Pump Non-Return Valve Replacement in Leicester
Following the initial servicing visit, our engineers sourced the required replacement non-return valves and returned to the Leicester city centre apartment block to complete the repairs.
The existing twin booster pump system was retained, with the work focused on replacing the affected components within the associated pipework.
The work included:
- Assessing the existing twin cold water booster pump system.
- Identifying the failed non-return valve during routine servicing.
- Sourcing suitable replacement non-return valves.
- Isolating the booster pump system before commencing repairs.
- Dismantling the associated pipework to access the existing valves.
- Removing the failed non-return valve.
- Removing the second ageing non-return valve as a preventative measure.
- Installing two replacement non-return valves.
- Reassembling and reinstating the booster pump pipework.
- Checking and testing the complete booster pump system.
- Confirming both pumps were fully operational before returning the system to service.
Replacing both non-return valves during the same visit provided a practical solution, addressing the existing fault while helping prevent a similar issue developing with the second valve.
By retaining the existing booster pumps and replacing only the necessary components, our engineers completed the repair without requiring a full booster set replacement.
The Result – Reliable Booster Pump Operation Restored
Following the replacement of both non-return valves, the pipework was reinstated and the complete booster pump system was checked and tested.
Both pumps were confirmed to be fully operational, allowing the system to be returned to service.
The completed repairs addressed the identified valve failure while also reducing the risk of future problems associated with the second ageing component.
The completed repair delivered:
✅ Failed Non-Return Valve Identified During Servicing
✅ Both Booster Pump Non-Return Valves Replaced
✅ Existing Booster Pump System Retained
✅ Pipework Reassembled and Reinstated
✅ Complete Booster Set Checked and Tested
✅ Both Booster Pumps Fully Operational
✅ Reduced Risk of Further Non-Return Valve Failures
✅ Preventative Maintenance Completed
✅ Unnecessary Booster Set Replacement Avoided
The apartment block now benefits from a repaired booster pump system, with both non-return valves renewed to support continued reliable operation.
Added Value – Preventative Booster Pump Maintenance for Apartment Buildings
One of the biggest advantages of regular booster pump servicing is the opportunity to identify developing problems before they result in more serious equipment failures.
For apartment blocks and other multi-occupancy residential properties, unexpected booster pump breakdowns can create significant disruption.
Water pressure problems can affect multiple apartments simultaneously, resulting in complaints from residents, emergency maintenance callouts and additional costs for property management teams.
However, not every booster pump fault requires a complete system replacement.
In this Leicester project, identifying a failed non-return valve during routine servicing allowed the necessary repairs to be planned and completed before further issues developed.
Replacing both valves also demonstrated the value of taking a preventative approach rather than simply addressing the immediate fault.
At NT Cloke Pumps & Water, our engineers provide comprehensive booster pump servicing, non-return valve replacements, pump repairs, pressure system maintenance and booster set refurbishment for residential and commercial properties.
Our experience working with twin and multiple booster pump systems allows us to identify faults, recommend suitable repairs and help extend the operational lifespan of existing equipment.
We support apartment blocks, residential developments, landlords, property management companies and facilities management teams throughout Leicester, Leicestershire, the Midlands and across the UK.
