Booster Set Replacement at Student Accommodation in Durham
Improving Reliability, Access and Future Maintenance
Replacing ageing equipment can solve an immediate problem, but sometimes the existing installation itself needs improving.
NT Cloke Pumps & Water recently completed a booster set replacement at student accommodation in Durham following ongoing reliability issues with the property’s existing water boosting system.
Rather than simply installing new equipment in the same location, our engineers assessed the existing plant room arrangement and identified an opportunity to significantly improve access for future servicing, repairs and planned maintenance.
The result was a completely new booster set installation, relocated within the plant room with associated pipework and electrical modifications to create a more practical and maintainable system.
The Problem – Restricted Access to the Existing Booster Set
The existing booster set had been installed beneath the property’s cold water storage tank.
Although the system was accessible, its position created extremely restricted working space around the equipment.
This made routine maintenance and future repairs unnecessarily difficult and could increase the time required to access and work on individual components.
With the existing booster system also experiencing ongoing reliability issues, replacing the equipment provided the ideal opportunity to improve the overall installation rather than simply recreating the same access problems.
Designing a Better Booster Set Installation
Before carrying out the replacement, our engineers assessed the available plant room space and planned a new position for the booster set.
The objective was to provide sufficient access around the equipment for future:
- Booster pump servicing
- Routine inspections
- Fault diagnosis
- Component replacement
- Electrical maintenance
- Planned preventative maintenance
Relocating the booster set meant the existing pipework and electrical installation also needed to be modified to suit the new arrangement.
Our team therefore managed the complete mechanical and electrical scope of the project.
New Booster Set Installation
The existing installation was modified and the new booster set positioned in a significantly more accessible area of the plant room.
Our engineers rerouted the necessary pipework and completed the associated mechanical connections before carrying out the required electrical alterations.
The new multi-pump booster set provides a modern solution designed to maintain reliable water pressure throughout the student accommodation while also allowing much easier access to individual pumps, controls and associated components.
Works Completed
- Existing booster system assessed
- New booster set installation planned
- Booster set relocated to improve maintenance access
- Existing pipework reconfigured
- Mechanical modifications completed
- Electrical alterations completed
- New booster set installed and connected
- System fully tested
- Booster set commissioned
- Water supply returned to normal operation
Minimising Disruption to the Water Supply
Working within occupied buildings such as student accommodation requires careful planning.
Booster systems can serve large numbers of occupants, meaning unnecessary interruption to the building’s water supply needs to be avoided wherever possible.
Our engineers carefully coordinated the replacement and associated modifications so the work could be completed with minimal disruption to the building’s water services.
Once installation was complete, the new booster set was fully tested and commissioned before being returned to service.
The Result – A Better System for Years to Come
The completed installation doesn’t just provide the student accommodation with a new, reliable booster set.
The improved plant room arrangement also makes the equipment significantly easier for engineers to access.
That means future servicing, inspection and repairs can be carried out more efficiently without engineers having to work around the restricted access created by the original installation.
It is a good example of why replacing mechanical equipment shouldn’t always mean simply putting the new equipment exactly where the old equipment stood.
Sometimes, improving the installation itself is just as important as replacing the equipment.
Commercial Booster Set Replacement & Installation
NT Cloke Pumps & Water provides specialist booster set installation, replacement, repair and maintenance for commercial and residential buildings throughout Durham and across the UK.
Our engineers work with booster systems serving a wide range of properties, including:
- Student accommodation
- Apartment blocks
- Hotels
- Schools and universities
- Care homes
- Offices
- Commercial buildings
- Residential developments
Where an existing booster installation has poor access, ageing pipework or an unsuitable layout, our engineers can assess the wider system and recommend improvements as part of the replacement project.
Planning a Booster Set Replacement?
Whether your existing booster set is becoming unreliable, requires frequent repairs or simply needs replacing due to age, NT Cloke Pumps & Water can provide a complete solution.
From initial assessment and equipment selection through to pipework alterations, electrical modifications, installation, testing and commissioning, our engineers can manage the complete booster set replacement.
And where the existing installation could be improved, we’ll look beyond simply replacing the equipment to create a system that’s easier to operate and maintain for years to come.
