The Challenge

Our engineers were called to a busy restaurant in Cardiff city centre where a single pump booster set was running continuously and failing to shut down.

This constant operation was a clear warning sign. Left unresolved, it would have led to premature pump wear, increased energy use and a high risk of system failure — something the site simply couldn’t afford during trading hours.

Initial inspection pointed towards a pressure control issue within the system.

Our Solution

We carried out a full inspection of the booster set and associated pipework, quickly identifying the root cause.

The non-return valve internals had completely failed, allowing system pressure to flow back into the tank. This reverse flow prevented the pump from achieving shut-off pressure, forcing it to run constantly.

Our engineers:

• Isolated the system safely
• Removed the failed non-return valve
• Installed a new correctly sized non-return valve
• Recommissioned the system and verified correct operation

Once installed, pressure control was immediately restored.

The Result

The booster set returned to normal operation, shutting down correctly once pressure was achieved and eliminating unnecessary strain on the pump.
