Emergency Heating System Leak Repair at Leicester School
The Problem
NT Cloke Pumps & Water were called to a school in Leicester following reports of a leak within the site’s heating system plantroom.
The leak was causing pressure loss across the heating network, with the pressurisation equipment continuously working to maintain system pressure. Left unresolved, this could have led to further system faults, increased wear on plant equipment and disruption to the school’s heating services.
Following investigation, our engineers identified the source of the problem as a leaking flexible connector (bellows) on the pipework connected to a Wilo heating circulator.
As heating systems begin to shut down during warmer weather, pipework naturally contracts as temperatures reduce. This movement can expose weaknesses within older joints, seals and flexible connectors, often resulting in leaks developing around the system.
Our Solution
Our engineers attended site promptly and carried out a full inspection of the heating system and associated plant equipment.
The leaking bellows assembly was identified and remedial works were undertaken to secure the affected connection and stop further water loss from the system.
Once the leak had been resolved, the team carried out a series of operational checks to ensure the wider heating network remained stable and that the pressurisation equipment was functioning correctly.
Additional inspections were completed throughout the plantroom to identify any further signs of leakage or system instability.
Works Completed
✔ Emergency attendance to site
✔ Leak investigation and fault diagnosis
✔ Failed flexible connector/bellows identified
✔ Remedial repairs completed
✔ System pressures checked and stabilised
✔ Pressurisation equipment inspected
✔ Heating plant inspected for additional faults
✔ System left fully operational
The Result
The heating system leak was successfully resolved during the visit, preventing further pressure loss and protecting the wider heating network from potential damage.
With system pressures restored and stabilised, the school’s heating plant was returned to normal operation with minimal disruption to site activities.
This project highlights how seemingly minor leaks within commercial heating systems can quickly develop into larger issues if left unattended. Early intervention helped avoid further deterioration and ensured the school’s critical plant equipment remained protected and operational.
